Walk for Lincoln Park, Walk for Change

I was inspired today while standing 6' apart from other shoppers at Trader Joe's as we waited to enter the store.  On the pavement an employee had written quotes on the lines of tape.  My quote was the following:

"You are never too old to set a new goal or to dream a new dream." - C.S. Lewis

So often it's the little things that make a difference. They could have just put tape on the pavement but they decided to encourage and inspire at the same time.

I've been deeply touched by the protests across the country in response to the killing of George Floyd. We here at Save Our Schools & Playgrounds and Friends of Lincoln Park believe that Black Lives Matter. We support racial equality and meaningful change. It is long past due.

Let's create something new. Let's "dream a new dream." Please join us in voting in November for more diverse representation within all levels of our government. Please join us in pushing for change so that we can create an equitable, just, and healthy society.

As Trevor Noah so aptly stated, "There is no right way to protest." Let's push for change anyway. Even when it's uncomfortable. Even when we're tired or busy or afraid.

These are challenging times. There's an abundance of anxiety and tragedy and our hearts go out to all those who have suffered, to all those whose lives have been forever altered by unspeakable loss.

We're fairly sure that we have not been alone in dealing with the stress and grief of all of this by eating way too many cookies. No joke. So... we've been thinking about different ways that we can help. Even if it's just a small thing, like choosing to write an inspiring quote on a piece of tape. Here's what we've come up with.

During the month of July 2020 we're having a "Walk for Lincoln Park, Walk for Change" event/non-event. Just keep track of the walks/runs/bike rides that you take during the whole month of July and once you hit 8 or more walks/runs/bike rides then just let us know. We will then enter you into our drawing to win fun prizes from our business sponsors and "Save Lincoln Park" merch!

Our hope is that regular exercise and being out in nature will boost your spirits... and who doesn't like to win prizes? We'll have some fun together/apart as we get out there, get active, and get some fresh air.

We are working on laptop stickers, rack cards, lawn signs, and more. If you'd like to order a t-shirt, sweatshirt, tote bag, phone case, laptop case, notebook (spiral or hardcover), magnet, or coffee cup... please visit www.teepublic.com and search for "Save Lincoln Park" to find all kinds of good stuff. A portion of each purchase goes towards our effort -- so thank you! Here's the direct link: https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirts?query=lincoln-park
